My name is Ms. Darby. I am one of the English Language (EL) specialists at Wyland. I have been teaching for 12 years and in this role for 10 years. I support and teach English to students who speak a first language other than English. I love working with our diverse group of students at Wyland! Prior to teaching EL, I taught 2nd grade at Marvin Elementary and 3rd grade in the Hazelwood School District. Teaching is my passion!
In my free time, I spend lots of time with my daughters, Avery and Noel. We love to go to the park and travel!

Me llamo Sra. Darby.

I have been a teacher for 24 years. I earned my Bachelor of Arts from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, a Master's of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin, and I was a doctoral candidate at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. I began teaching in Houston, Texas, as a Bilingual Classroom teacher in Kindergarten. After moving to St. Louis, I taught Kindergarten and was a Reading Interventionist with the Ladue School District. We moved to Kentucky, where my children were born, and I raised my family. I returned to teaching as an EL teacher in Kentucky. We moved back here to St. Louis in 2013, when I  joined Ritenour as an EL teacher, first at Marvin and now at Wyland. Wyland has been my home for 9 years.

I grew up in South Texas. I have been married to my husband, Jeff, for 30 years. We have three adult children and a chihuahua.

I enjoy international food, travel, and singing. I have traveled to China, Hong Kong, Western and Northern Europe, and recently to Greece, Italy, Estonia, Poland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. I did volunteer work in Slovenia and Spain and studied for a summer at the Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico. I love exploring cultures and languages and teaching English Learners!

This is my sixth year in the Ritenour School District and my fourth as a proud Wyland Dolphin! I’ve been teaching for 18 years, with the past 10 focused on supporting English language learners. I currently work with our amazing kindergarten and first-grade English Language Learners (ELLs), and I truly love helping them grow in confidence and language every day.

Before this role, I taught first grade in Phoenix, AZ, and Omaha, NE, and worked with middle and high schoolers at the International Welcome Center.

Outside of school, I enjoy life with my partner, our two dogs, and two cats. I also love listening to audiobooks and attending live performances with loved ones.
