Show you care. Ask your child specific questions abput their shool day and special events.
Read, read, read. Take time to read to your child or let your child read to you.
Make home a place for learning. Have a designated well lit area for your child to work in. Make sure all supplies needed are provided. Create a schedule for homework time and play time.
Promote healthy habits. Teach your child the importanve of eating healthy foods and exercising.
Encourage independence. Allow your child to enter the building alone and ready for the day
Attend school functions. If you don't come, your child thinks why should they come? Your child needs to see that you think school is important.
Get Organized
Pick an area in the home that is quiet, has good lighting and is free from distractions.
Homework Routine = Family Routine
Try to have the same time and place for homework. If you have some children who are not assigned homework for the day, still maintain that homework atmosphere by engaging the children in some type of quiet learning activity.
Help When They Need It
Review homework with your child before and after the work is completed. Remember, if you are having difficulties assisting your child, speak with the teacher. This will keep everyone's frustration level down.
Pack It Up
When your child has finished their homework, have them place it in the backpack which should be kept in the same central location in the home.
